In 1887 a notice in the Aurora Banner mentions a tennis match that took place between the clubs of Newmarket and Aurora (24 June 1887 Aurora Banner). In 1912 both tennis and lawn bowling games were re-located east of Trinity Anglican Church on Victoria Street. and records show during this time a meetings took place that led to the establishment of the Aurora Law Bowling Club in 1914. The club currently runs out of McMahon Park where it has been located since 1930. The Aurora Lawn Bowling Club has been a part of the community for over 100 years and is often cited as the oldest sports organization in Aurora!

LAWN BOWLING

The history of lawn bowling in Aurora dates back to at least the 1890s when players would compete along Yonge Street, just north of Hillary House. By 1912 games were re-located to the east lawn of Trinity Anglican Church on Victoria Street. Records show that during this time various meetings took place that eventually led to the establishment of the Aurora Lawn Bowling Club in 1914. Beginning in 1930 the club moved its games and operations over to McMahon Park where teams currently continue to play. The Aurora Lawn Bowling Club has been part of the community for over 100 years and is often cited as the oldest sports organization in Aurora!
