League Baseball

A sepia-coloured photograph of a group of 12 men, most in early 20th century baseball uniforms reading "Best Everyday Shoe" on the jersey, standing and sitting in two rows in front of a vertically slatted wooden building. The man standing at the left is dressed in pants and suspenders and is leaning on a baseball bat, and the man standing at the right is dressed in a three-piece suit and boater hat.

February 2nd is the anniversary of the 1876 formation of the National Baseball League.   The sport was in full swing in Aurora by the time the major leagues were forming.  Pictured here (71.11) standing in front of the old Armoury building in Town Park, the Sisman’s Shoe Company fielded their 1914 team in the local industrial league.
