Hairball Awareness Day

A gold frame with a glass cover that houses a "C" shaped wreath made of dark human hair, photographed from above on a plain white background

April 30th is the day we raise awareness for an issue faced by cat owners around the world – hairballs. Also known as “bezoars,” hairballs are a byproduct of cats’ grooming methods, but can indicate health problems if they become too regular.

This hairball pictured here is actually a “hair wreath” (988.30) which were popular in the Victorian era, and were typically woven out of the hair of a deceased loved one.
